Epidrum
Clinical Data
The clinical investigation was undertaken, with full scientific rigour, at Northwick Park Hospital in London, to compare Epidrum with the Loss of Resistance Syringe. (The Local Research Ethics Committee approved the planned investigation and assigned it the reference no. 3058.) The results are set out below:
Epidrum |
LOR |
Significance of Results |
|
Total: |
270 | 189 | |
Dural Punctures: |
3 (1%) | 10 (5.3%) | Highly significant (p = 0.007) |
Attempts (>2): |
18 (6.5%) | 32 (16.9%) | Very highly significant (p = 0.0003) |
Easy to Use: |
253 (91%) | 145 (77%) | Very highly significant (p = 0.00002) |
Confident of Endpoint |
269 (96.7%) | 164 (86.8%) | Very highly significant (p = 0.00005) |
Note: although the dural puncture data do not have sufficient statistical power to be perceived as definitive, the results nevertheless provide a very strong indication that the use of Epidrum will reduce the incidence of dural punctures with concomitant savings from in-patient and blood patch costs.
